Which Spirit is in You?

Did you know that as Christians, when you said ‘yes, Jesus is my Lord’ and invited the Holy Spirit in, you became the temple of the living God? We focus on exercise and nutrition for the physical strength and optimal performance of our bodies. These are good things and yet by themselves they are not enough. We need to clean up our lives with righteous living. This happens when we rely on God to come into our hearts and minds and “clean house”.

The Holy Spirit doesn’t dwell in the Holiest of Holies like He did in Old Testament times. Once Jesus tore the veil between God and humanity with His death and resurrection, He was glorified. This is when Christ gave us a Helper. This Comforter makes your body His house. God’s temple is not made of brick and mortar, its you. You literally become the hands and feet of Christ, powered by the Holy Spirit.

Let this marvelous truth remind you not to trash His temple. There are warnings throughout the bible about who has the power to dwell in us (our house or our earthly tent). Our bodies are temporary and can be accessed by good or evil. The choices we make either invite the Holy Spirit’s indwelling or make us vulnerable to unclean spirits. If you allow God to clean house, make sure you read His Word and ask the Holy Spirit to live in you. Don’t leave your house vacant for returning visitors.

Yuck, I know. Creepy! Is your house (body) haunted by unclean spirits or blessed by the presence of the Holy Spirit? I’m sure that there are people that will find this spiritual reality absolutely crazy. Then again, a lot of things Jesus says are referred to as insane. Please don’t take my word for it. Let this blog motivate you to test what I’m saying by reading God’s Word. I have listed two identical versus from different versions of the bible so that you may compare but don’t be limited by my short list. Dig deep into His Word yourself. Comment and share what He teaches you about the Holy Spirit versus demons, possession and unclean spirts.

  • When an unclean spirit goes out of a man, he goes through dry places, seeking rest, and finds none. Then he says, “I will return to my house from which I came, he finds it empty, swept, and put in order. Then he goes and take with him seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter and dwell there; and the last state of that man is worse than the first. So shall it be with this wicked generation.Matthew 12:43-45, NKJV
  • “When a defiling evil spirit is expelled from someone, it drifts along through the desert looking for an oasis, some unsuspecting soul it can bedevil. When it doesn’t find anyone, it says, ‘I’ll go back to my old haunt.’ On return it finds the person spotlessly clean, but vacant. It then runs out and rounds up seven other spirits more evil than itself and they all move in, whooping it up. That person ends up far worse off than if he’d never gotten cleaned up in the first place.” Matthew 12:43-45, Message

I didn’t think this man was a believer. Turns out it can happen to a die hard follower.

I allowed the unclean spirit of lust to dwell inside me for two months. During this time the Holy Spirit was not in me. Why would he hang around with someone who would defile Him if He stayed? I wouldnt want to be with that person (unclean spirit) either.

God showed me what I was missing. Scripture stopped popping up in my head. My godly friends didn’t want to be aroumd me because of the darkness I was emitting. My physical health decreased significantly, and no matter how hard I tried (while evil was still in me mind you) the word of God would not stick.

I had a choice. In Christ’s strength the spirit of lust was cast out, but if I stayed in the compromising relationship I would allow 7 more unclean spirits to dwell in me. My condition would become much worse.

The thought of giving up my daily walk with God still brings tears to my eyes. He relentlessly pursued me in my darkness and reminded me what my relationship with Him could be like.

To ensure the unclean spirit would not return and bring his evil friends I cut out my heart and cast it into the sea. I put what caused me to sin far from me. I ran away like Joseph ran from his master’s wife.

I realized that nothing I want surpasses my need for God. I would sacrifice anything to have God in my life again. I gave up what was dearest to me.

Have I already seen a difference?

I’ve changed so much in a matter of days that it scares me. My friendships have been restored and the Holy Spirit is in me 100%.

    God is faithful.

Who am I choosing to live in me?

      Hello Kymmalee,

I was very touched by your testimony, as a person which has went through similar struggles I can only imagine how hard your life must have been during these months. I allowed the unclean spirit of lust to dwell inside me for a very long time. I held on to the person that pushed me to my limits because of fear and lack of faith. It’s terrifying to think about how far I drifted away from my wish to live a life dedicated to our savior just because scripture did not reach my heart anymore.

How long did it take you to go back to your daily walk with God? I don’t know how much time has passed by since you experienced these dark times, are you now able to pursue a healthy relationship with god at its center? Is there a piece of scripture that helped you get through this time that you might wanna share? Sorry for all these questions, I’m very thankful for the words you’ve already shared here!

      Elias
