Go!

It’s such a powerful word, go! I know when I hear ‘go’ from the Lord and I choose to stay, life gets uncomfortable. There is a lot of emphasis on learning how to be still and wait. This is wonderful because it emphasizes His Word and His Will. What about the times when He is calling us to action and we chose to wait? Now “being still” is no longer holy, it’s disobedient. I bring this up because I have made excuses as to why it’s not the right time to ‘go’. I can come up with some really good ones:

  • My husband will think I’m crazy.
  • I don’t want to rock the boat.
  • Not during football/cheer/soccer season.
  • What if it doesn’t turn out right?
  • I can’t afford that right now.
  • What if it’s not really God’s leading, it’s just me?

You get the point. We are masterful at making our disobedience sound logical. So what has God put on your heart? What is He whispering in your ear? We were all made for ministry. This doesn’t mean we will all become preachers or worship leaders, it simply means that we exist for service to HIM! Sometimes we haven’t even asked what He wants us to do. We’re content with attending church, tithing, praying and reading our daily devotional. It’s as though we’ve developed a one size fits all template to be a Christian and now we just check off the boxes. Now don’t get me wrong, all of those things are foundational to being a believer but that’s just it, they’re the foundation. What will you do with that foundation?

One of the keys to living our faith beyond the foundation is developing intamacy with Jesus. When we aren’t satisfied just visiting Him, when we hunger and thirst to know Him, then we are willing to risk discomfort and failure. We are willing to go because He is more important than all of our “what if’s” put together! Jesus doesn’t specialize in mediocre plans. God is great and His plan for your life is beyond your ability to think or dream. One of the most effective weapons against the Kingdom is the word “can’t”. Whether you are telling it to yourself or saying it to your boss, your husband, your daughter; it’s a demolition word. It has the power to crack the foundation, allowing fear and doubt to enter your mind. It causes paralysis.

So here’s the challenge, annihilate the word can’t from your vocabulary. Become curious about all the “cans” that await the faithful servant you are designed to be. If the Apostle Paul can drift at sea for a full day and night without arriving at the decision that maybe he “can’t really do this.”, then why don’t you and I decide now that we can do all things in Christ who strengthens us! Make no mistake beloved, you are here to make a difference for the Kingdom of God. You are not here to have a fancy foundation.

  • Acts 1:8 “But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me In Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”

  • Mark 1:38 “But He said to them, ‘Let us go into the next towns, that I may preach there also, because for this purpose I have come forth.

  • Acts 1:11 “Men of Galilee, why do you stand gazing up into heaven? This same Jesus, who was taken up from you into heaven, will so come in like manner as you saw Him go into heaven.
  • Ecclesiastes 9:10 “Whatever your hand finds to do, do it with your might; for there is no work or device or knowledge or wisdom in the grave where you are going.”
  • Colossians 3:17 “And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.”
  • Jeremiah 29:11 “For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.”
