Taming the Toddler!

What leads your conversations and choices? Feelings are sometimes like a toddler. Emotions rise up and tantrum inside of us, giving us heartache. When you decide to pursue righteous living it takes maturity and causes discomfort .  It takes courage to go against your feelings and do things the way God intends. In fact, the world will encourage you to “follow your heart”. You won’t find this instruction anywhere in the bible. Why? Because there is a way that seems right to man and its end is death. Have your private tantrum and then choose to follow Christ.

You have seen it before when a toddler hears the word ‘no’.  It’s easier to cave into the toddler at that moment and let them lead the decision.  IF you allow yourself to avoid discomfort, then you begin to live in fear of discomfort. You start making life decisions based on your “inner toddler”. You let emotions lead. As a Christian, your emotions must take a back seat to Christ.  You must practice taming the toddler and following the Lord. Don’t allow yourself to stumble because you follow your emotions. You will have feelings but they will not have you! Why? Because you are a part of a chosen generation, a royal priesthood and a holy nation. God has great plans for you beloved, follow Him!

“There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.” (Proverbs 14:12)

“They stumble, being disobedient to the word, to which they also were appointed. But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvelous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God…” (1 Peter 2:8-9)

I definitely needed to hear this message! As I look back at some of my actions I definitely was a toddler. I’ve always chosen to avoid my feelings but now I have chosen to deal with it. I want to make better decisions for my life and setting Christ first. Thank you for this message. May God bless you!

Such a courageous choice! Meeting feelings head on and choosing the path Christ has for us is liberating. Check out Psalm 62:8 for additional encouragement. God speed!
