We often talk about love when speaking of God. This makes sense because He is Love. However, did you know that God has a list of things He hates? Yep, it’s found in the book of Proverbs. Many Christians aren’t aware of this truth. Only seeing part of God’s character distorts our perception of Him. IF we only know a little of who God is we aren’t well equipped when the storms come. When evil strikes we may shake our fists at God and cry out for answers. Truthfully, I don’t know that any “answer” given is going to fill the depths of the pain we experience when wickedness devours our loved ones. If you call yourself a Christian, aspire to make a commitment to learning all of God’s character through His Word. Here’s God’s “Hate List”:
“There are six things the Lord hates- no, seven things he detests: haughty eyes, a lying tongue, hands that kill the innocent, a heart that plots evil, feet that race to do wrong, a false witness who pours out lies, a person who sows discord in a family.” (Proverbs 6:16-19, NLT)
You may wonder how this information is helpful. Remember that evil is real. God has already answered for the blood of innocents. His answer, Jesus Christ, is eternal. This is the part we must remember as we continue to witness carnage in our communities. He did not end the earthly battle, He won the eternal war. The battle rages until the Lord determines it is time for the end. His patience for reaching the lost souls in our world is divine and there will be an end.
Throughout history we see the slaughter of innocent people. It’s on His list. We witness nations plotting for our demise; spending endless days, weeks, months and years on their evil schemes. It’s on His list. Make sure you don’t find yourself on this list! The very first detestable thing that God shows us is pride. It’s number one on His list. Why? Because you have to believe you’re better than God to murder His creation. Pride is always a prerequisite to evil. This is why humility is protective to our souls. Humility prevents the development of evil in our hearts. If we stay humble before God and submitted to Christ, we will never be drawn away by evil.
When the pain of the Las Vegas massacre takes your breath away, fall to your knees and protect your soul. Allow Love to reign in your heart and remember that vengeance belongs to God. In His perfect timing, His wrath will be spent on the wicked. Not for a moment, but for an eternity. How do I know? Because the bible tells me so.
“Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience…” (Colossians 3:6)
“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to wrath; for it is written, “Vengeance is Mine, I will repay.” says the Lord.’ (Romans 12:19)
