What’s your breaking point? That place where you come to the end of yourself and whisper, this is too much. I hope you know we all break. God’s word says He receives us when we’re ready to admit we can’t do it without Him. Yet so many well meaning believers will say to a friend suffering, “well you know God wouldn’t give YOU more than YOU can handle.” Hogwash! That’s not in God’s word. It’ a lie encouraging self reliance instead of God reliance. Don’t believe the lie.
Decide today that you’re not going to encourage false doctrine. Challenge every precept that may be familiar to you against the backdrop of God’s Word. Don’t be tempted to foster thinking that declares faith protects us from all suffering and promises a life without pain. Rebuke any thought that you can do anything in your own strength. It’s not about us. It’s about Jesus.
God’s Word tells me that I can do NOTHING without Christ. We’re reminded repeatedly not to rely on our own strength and understanding but rather to wait on and acknowledge the Lord in everything.
1. “Yes, I am the vine you are the branches. Those who remain in me, and I in them, will produce much fruit. For apart from me you can do nothing.” (John 15:5)
2. “Trust in the Lord with all you heart; do not depend on your own understanding. Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take. (Proverbs 3:5)
